The
International Triennial
sets itself the task of presenting the most noteworthy and interesting achievements of artists all over the world in the domain of the art poster devoted to the various arts of the stage: drama, opera, ballet, operetta, musical, circus, puppet show, pantomime, concerts, festivals, variety theatre (music hall), pop music performances, etc. The second International Triennial of the Stage Poster will be held from October through December 1998 in the Gallery of the Union of Bulgarian Artists, Sofia, 6 Shipka St Terms of participation Posters created during the period from June 1995 to June 1998 will be accepted. Categories 1. Printed posters for: drama, opera, ballet, operetta, musical, circus, puppet show, pantomime, concerts, festivals, variety theatre (music hall), pop music performances, etc. 2. Original designs and printed posters on the theme of War and Peace (on a competition basis). There is no requirement for the works to be inspired by the great novel of Lev Nikolaevich Tolstoy (include. its scenic adaptation or Prokofieff opera). The works submitted could treat in a broader philosophical aspect the perennial theme of War and Peace, or reflect the challenges facing our human civilization on the threshold of the third Millennium. Both original designs (drawings) and printed posters can be submitted for the category. No obligatory text is required. Format of works For category 1: minimal format A2 (420 x 594 mm) For category 2: minimal format A3 (297 x 420 mm) Number of works to be submitted Each artist may submit up to 4 posters in each of the two categories. Entry deadline The works sent in for the Triennial should be received in Bulgaria by June 30, 1998. There is no participation fee. An International Jury, chaired by Seymour Chwast (USA) will determine the prizes to be awarded on the eve of the Triennial’s opening. The award winners will be announced during the official opening ceremony. |

A further prize will be awarded to an young artist (not older than 35) - a bronze plaque named after the eminent Bulgarian Assen Stareyshinski. Each participant should send his posters properly packed for transportation, without frames or frame-plates (passe-partout), and labelled ‘Print Matter’. The organizers of the Triennial may photograph and reproduce the posters free of charge in all printed publications of the Triennial and the relevant reviews. The organizers assume no responsibility for damages and losses incurred during transportation. The posters of category 1 remain the property of the Triennial’s Fund after the closure of the exhibition. The posters of category 2 will be returned to their authors if they so desire. The organizers reserve the right to reject any work which is in contradiction to the Statute of the Triennial, violates moral standarts, or is likely to offend national or religious sensibilities. Catalogue A catalogue in colour of the Second International Triennial of the Stage Poster Sofia ‘98 will be published, including all works accepted for participation by the selection Jury. All participants in the Triennial are entitled to a free copy of the catalogue, paying only the postage. |
